The photographic exhibition depicting LTTE atrocities to the world at
large will be taken to Italy this month.
The exhibition will be held at the Popolare University hall in Rome
from November 14 to 16, Federico II University in Napoli from November
18 to 20 and at Milano from November 21 to 23, the Presidential Media
Unit said yesterday. The anti-terrorist collective in Italy and Europe
is handling arrangements for the exhibition in Italy in association with
the Sri Lanka Embassy in Italy, Embassy Consultant Chandrapala Liyanage
said.
Liyanage said LTTE activities in Italy have been suppressed to a
great extent, but LTTE sympathisers were still surreptitiously engaged
in fund raising activities and demanding ransom payments from innocent
Tamil citizens. Sri Lankan Ambassador Hemantha Warnakulasuriya said the
Italian Government and police were countering terrorist activities with
a strong hand.
The Italian Government was closely working with the intelligence
services and other authorities to put a full stop to LTTE activities in
Italy.
More than 100,000 Sri Lankans work in Italy in various capacities and
remitting large amount of foreign exchange earnings to the country.
