44 Kasippu dens busted in Wayamba

Forty-four kassippu dens including seven large-scale illegal distilleries were raided and 44 suspects were taken into custody during a raid conducted in the Wayamba province by the Kandy special excise unit.

Suspects included 15 women, excise official Sunil Perera said. A total of 1,500 bottles of Goda and spirits along with distilling equipment were taken into custody. Excise inspectors Sunil Perera and Dinesh Wanniarachchi and excise guards Manjula Gunasekera, Walisundara, Atapattu, Asanka Bandara and Sarath Bandara conducted the raid under the direction of Central Province Assistant excise commissioner, W.M. Wansuriya and Kandy special excise squad chief R.M. Senarathna.
