Aqua Jogger -achieving fitness by water
The resistance offered equally in all directions by the water
augments the cardiovascular and muscular benefits to the entire human
body.
Anew water training and rehabilitation instrument is set to make
waves in Sri Lanka for the very first time. The Aqua Jogger Buoyancy
Belt by Hydro Solutions is a unique water-training tool that not only
helps in rehabilitation for post-surgery patients and injured athletes,
but also acts as a high-level fitness instrument.
The belt is worn around the waist, and once the wearer submerges up
to neck level in deep or shallow water, he or she will be able to
perform a variety of movements, whether it is aerobics, running, or any
other activity while afloat. The resistance offered equally in all
directions by the water augments the cardiovascular and muscular
benefits to the entire human body.
The water cushion also creates hydrostatic pressure around the body,
which improves cardiac function and lowers blood pressure.
Christine Fernando, Director, Hydro Solutions, who is introducing the
Aqua Jogger Buoyancy Belt to Sri Lanka, emphasises that this is an ideal
method of training for all who wish to experience the comfort of low
impact exercise and recovery therapy.
"This equipment will give many, if not everyone, the opportunity to
experience a cutting-edge form of exercise and therapy that is very
popular in other parts of the world.
It will definitely open up new options for those who wish to maintain
a healthy lifestyle, even if they have a disability, recovering from
injury or enhance their training potential."
Fernando has personally benefited from the Aqua Jogger belt. A few
years ago she developed a chronic knee injury whilst in Sri Lanka. At
the time doctors recommended knee surgery, however on her return to New
Zealand, where she enjoys permanent residency, she opted for water
rehabilitation, primarily using the buoyancy belt.
The therapy helped her recover rapidly, and she was able to revert to
her former lifestyle. She felt the need for Sri Lanka to have the option
of this tool, which may be a cheaper solution to surgery.
"This product will definitely enhance the options we can give our
patients," Dr. C. Thurairajah, a Consultant in Sports Medicine, said.
"Low impact therapy is the best way forward for those recovering from
serious injuries, especially athletes, who continuously put their bodies
under a lot of strain." |
