SLT completes first stage of e-government project
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), has completed the first phase of the
Government’s intended ambitious project, titled the Lanka Government
Network (LGN), covering five provinces in the country.
This modern LGN project implementation was carried out as a strategic
project of the Re-Engineering Government programme of Information and
Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), which functions
under the Presidential Secretariat.
The aim of this programme is to connect public serving Government
offices, which include ministries, departments as well as district and
divisional secretariats via a single unified network.
The first stage comprised providing connectivity to 325 government
offices including offices in the Western, Central, Southern, Uva and
Sabaragamuwa provinces through SLT’s intelligent communication solution
using advanced Internet Protocol (IP) technology.
The company has proudly provided its value added proposition,
featuring its world class Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP/VPN)
solution on its nation wide broadband network, which is the most
reliable and secure broadband network in the country. SLT’s IP/VPN
solution is capable of carrying quality voice and mission critical data
securely and reliably, will prove to be a value added advantage to the
island wide expansion that would take place in the forthcoming phases of
the LGN.
SLT will be providing a multiple range of products, which include
voice, video, broadband internet, networking and hosting services. It
further facilitates communities on the network by giving prompt online
access to software driven user interface, which enhances the
effectiveness of service delivery in the office environment.
