Right hander Vinod Perera batting at No. 9 for St. Peter’s College,
Bambalapitiya blasted Trinity College’s attack to score 107 off only 65
balls on the opening of their inter-school cricket match which began at
the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday. The match will be continued
today at 9.30 a.m.
The Peterites in reply to Trinity’s total of 128 were reeling at 106
for 7 and were in danger of conceding a first innings lead. It was at
this stage that Vinod Perera arrived at the crease and tore into the
Lions attack, a type of belligerent batting not seen here for a long
time.
He reached his hundred in just 57 balls and in all faced 65 balls
hitting 7 sixes and 4 fours. Last week he scored 71 against Joseph Vaz
College in just 35 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 3 fours.
Vinod Perera put on 93 for the 8th wicket with Akshu Fernando (24)
and a further 42 for the ninth wicket with G. Iftikar (12). The Lions
will face an uphill task in saving the match today.
