Supplying medical equipment to
upgrade Mannar and Vavunia Hospitals to treat battle casualties
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Healthcare and
Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to procure medical equipment
to upgrade Mannar and Vavunia Hospitals to treat battle casualties.
Accordingly 83 pieces of 15 different types of equipment from 10
supplies were recommended to purchase at the total cost of Rs.
50,498,779.30 + Vat with the approval of the Healthcare and Nutrition
Ministry.
The decision came following the meeting summoned by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa with the Secretary to the President and other officials and as
requested by the Army Commander to upgrade medical facilities at the
Mannar and Vavunia hospitals to treat battle casualties.
Accordingly the facilities to these two hospitals will be provided on
urgent basis.
Approval of building plans for the
Police Dept. will exempt from payment of 1% Service Charge to the Urban
Development Authority
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and
Order to exempt the 1 per cent Service Charge paid to Urban Development
Authority (UDA) when approving building plans for the Department of
Police.
This step was taken to save the large sum set aside as the service
charge for the UDA when constructing buildings for the Department of
Police.
As an excessive number of Police officers has to be deployed for
services of many police divisions due to the current security situation,
expeditious steps to construct new police stations for duties of such
officers police barracks and quarters of the married officers has been
taken by the Department of Police.
Construction of Divisional
Secretariat building
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Public
Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya to entrust
construction of the Divisional Secretariat building, Bandarawela to
Central Engineering Consulting Bureau.
The total estimated cost for the construction of the building complex
is Rs. 47.78 million.
Restriction on convening officials
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Local
Government and Provincial Councils Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon to
restrict convening respective Provincial Council officials to the
meetings conducted in Colombo by line Ministries, Departments and other
institutions of the Government once a month whenever possible.
The decision was taken at the meeting of Governors and Chief
Ministers of provinces and their attention has been focused on the
disruption cause to perform duties by the Provincial Council officials
including Provincial Chief Secretaries and Provincial Ministry
Secretaries as well as on high transport costs and other expenses
incurred when they are convened, from time to time, to Colombo to
participate in various discussions and seminars by Line Ministries and
Departments in the Central Government.
New Hospital complex for Sri Lanka
Air Force in Nawala
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by President
Rajapaksa as the Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order for
the establishment of a fully-fledged hospital complex to offer tertiary
level medical and dental services to both serving and retired Air Force
personnel and their immediate family members.
Sri Lanka Air Force will enter into a credit agreement with Bank
Austria Creditanstalt for the construction of 196-bed Air Force Hospital
Complex.
Accordingly, approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted to
explore the suitability of the offered credit loan of Euro 33.49 million
to construct and equip a 196-bed hospital complex as a turn-key project
under "design and build" concept through M/s VAMED Engineering GmbH and
Co.KG, Austria.
Resource Center for rain water
harvesting
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Urban
Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to
allocate a land for the establishment of a Resource Center to the Lanka
Rain Water Harvesting Forum to promote rain water harvesting in Sri
Lanka.
Accordingly Cabinet approval was granted to allocate a land area of
15 perches at Battaramulla to the Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum on a
30 years lease period for the establishment of a Resource Center for
rain water harvesting.
Allocation of land in Kirulapone
to University of Moratuwa
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Urban
Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to
allocate 12 perch block of land located at D.M. Colombage Mawata,
Kirulapone to the University of Moratuwa to conduct some lectures/design
programmes.
Accordingly the land will be allocated to the University of Moratuwa
on lease basis for 50 years, on recovery of cost of the land worked out
by the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
The land is owned by the Urban Development Authority.
Land blocks to set up industries
from regional industrial estate and other state lands
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Industrial
Development Minister Kumara Welgama to allocate separate land blocks to
setup industries from regional industrial estates and other state lands.
Accordingly 22 land blocks to prospective investors from Regional
Industrial Estate will be allocated for a total investment of Rs. 518.3
million.
Ten land blocks to prospective investors will be allocated under the
300 Gamata Karmantha Industrial Programme "approved under Negenahira
Navodaya Development project, for a total investment of Rs. 1,046
million. The land blocks will be allocated on a "50 year term lease". |
