The Examinations Department will conduct the GCE Ordinary Level
Examination in Chennai this year for refugee students in India if the
Department receives applications from those students, Examinations
Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe told the Daily News.
The Department has not received any applications from refugee
students, unlike the previous year. The examination will not be held if
there is a drop in the number of candidates, he said.
"If there is a request from the refugee community, the Department
will definitely hold the examination," the Examinations Commissioner
General said.
According to census of the Examinations Department last December,
nearly 60 students sat the examination, while about 100 students sat the
examination in 2006 in Chennai.
The Directorate of Government Examinations in Chennai, the Sri Lankan
Deputy High Commission along with the Department of Examinations will
make arrangements for the applicants who wish to sit the examination,
Eidirisinghe said. |
