Ceylinco Diabetes Centre offers free risk assessments and Glucometers

A free risk assessment and selected tests for diabetes, considered part of a healthy regimen the world over, could be done free in Colombo next month, courtesy the Ceylinco Diabetes Centre.

The Centre has designated November as its 'Diabetes month' in acknowledgement of World Diabetes Day which is observed worldwide on November 14, and will, as part of its commitment to fighting the spread of diabetes, offer free risk assessments to anyone who calls in and requests one during the month.

Free Risk Assessment includes a Random Blood Sugar test, computation of Body Mass Index (BMI), height and weight check and a blood pressure test, and could also include a free consultation with a doctor if the assessment indicates that the person tested is at risk, the centre said.

As an additional incentive, the centre will also offer every visitor who obtains a Comprehensive Diabetes Package or a Health Package during November a chance to win one of 25 Blood Glucose Monitors. These digital devices are used to test the concentration of glucose in the blood. "Risk Assessments are recommended for people at various stages of life, and for those with any of several risk factors," the Senior Medical Officer at Ceylinco Diabetes Centre Dr. Sharmila David said.

"Many medical conditions can trigger diabetes and therefore periodic screening is advisable. Those with a confirmed diagnosis of diabetes should also be tested routinely for complications," she said.

All tests, consultations and treatment at the Ceylinco Diabetes Centre located at Colombo 2 take place in a comfortable, non-hospital atmosphere.
