Undergraduate Bhikkus assaulted

A group of undergraduate monks of the Kelaniya University came under a mob attack at Kotttegoda in Dickwella on Monday night.

According to Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera these monks were returning to Colombo after attending a cremation of a leading Buddhist monk in Matara when they were assaulted by the mob in Kottegoda.

They have pelted stones at the monks' van when it stopped at a temple at Kottegoda. SSP Gunasekera said several monks have sustained minor injuries and received treatment after this incident. He said Dickwella police have arrested several members of the gang and investigation are on.
