Lanka's growing economy an example to us, says Pakistan Minister

Sri Lanka's fast growing economy is a great example to Pakistan, Sindh Minister for Informations Shazia Marri said.

Stressing the need of concrete efforts at various levels to promote exports through strong foreign relations, she said Pakistan can overcome "our economical problems by sharing our experiences with Sri Lanka".

She was speaking as chief guest at the exhibition "Sri Lanka Herbal and Cosmetics Products Expo" arranged by the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi V.S. Sidath Kumar, on Monday.

Marri said that Pakistan has very strong, old and friendly ties with Sri Lanka.

"There are many avenues through which the trade can be promoted between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the herbal and cosmetic products which are essential for women and men as well can become a great source of strengthening bilateral relations between both the countries," she said.

Marri also spoke of the rich culture as well as the beautiful cities of Sri Lanka.

She called upon the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Business Forum that whenever they take a trade delegation to Sri Lanka to include journalists on subsidised rates.

The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi V.S. Sidath Kumar said Pakistan can promote trade opportunities by exporting cotton fabric and cement to Sri Lanka while Sri Lankan herbal, cosmetics and jewellery can get good market in Pakistan.

He said the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Business Forum plays positive role to promote trade and business between both countries.
