Water’s Edge |
Urban Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on Monday appointed a
six- member Committee of officials to study and report the developments
which could be effected to the 225 acre Water’s Edge property in the
immediate aftermath of the Supreme Court judgment on October 9.
The Supreme Court ruled that the transaction which was given to Asia
Pacific Golf Course was null and void and that the ownership of the land
was to be reverted to the Urban Development Authority.
The committee of officials appointed by Minister Gunawardena
comprised those of the Urban Development Authority, Lanka Land
Reclamation and Development Corporation and the Central Environment
Authority.
The Committee which is chaired by Urban Development Ministry
Secretary Dr Prathap Ramanujam who is also Acting Chairman of the Urban
Development Authority, comprises UDA General Manager Prasanna Silva, Sri
Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation Chairman Karunasena
Hettiarachchi, and General Manager Shyama Gunawardena, Central
Environment Authority Chairman Udaya Gammanpila and Director General
Pasan Gunasena. The Supreme Court, in its judgment, has directed the UDA
and the other two state institutions to provide a report specifying the
development programs and other environment issues which the state
institutions will implement relating to the 225 acre property but Dr.
Ramanujam is confident that the report will be ready in a month.
The Minister has given the Committee a month to provide the report
and we are confident that we can complete it within that time, he said.
