Commemoration ceremony and auto-biography launch
A commemoration ceremony to mark the 30th death anniversary of
Rukmani Devi will be held at Sausiripaya Auditorium, Colombo 7, on
October 28 at 3 p.m. It will be presided by Minister of Culture and
National Heritage Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhane and Minister of Mass Media
and Information Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.
Mage Jeevana Withthi (Facts From My Life), an auto-biography
published by Rukmani in 1956 and Yugayaka Swarna Geethaya (The Golden
Song of an Era), a pictorial commentary compiled by senior journalist,
A.D. Ranjith Kumara, will also be launched in one volume titled Yugayaka
Swarna Geethaya - 2 (The golden Song of an Era - 2). The work, a coffee
table book, contains around a hundred rare photographs of the legendary
actress.
Professor Tissa Kariyawasam, Ravindra Randeniya and Nuwan Nayanajith
Kumara will speak. Legendary actor of Kale Handa fame, Stanley Perera,
will chair the event.
A musical performance featuring film songs and duets sung by the late
actress will also be organised with the participation of a group of
artistes comprising Prof. Sanath Nandasiri, Damayanthi Jayasuriya,
Damitha Abeyratne, Ravindra Randeniya, Luxman Wijesekara, Ishak Baig and
Lawyer Kanchana Fernando. Rupa Chaya a documentary based on the
illustrious life of Rukmani Devi produced by Dr. Tissa Abeysekara on
behalf of the Government Film Unit will also be screened.
Lyricist Bandara Ehaliyagoda and Sandamalee Hewanayake will compere
the event. The Tower Hall Theatre Foundation will conduct the ceremony. |
