Sports stadiums in Kegalle and Ratnapura to be given new looks

Arrangements are being made to give a modern look with plenty of
accommodation to four prominent sports stadiums in both Kegalle and
Ratnapura districts (Sabaragamuwa) with the aim of holding national
sports events in Sabaragamuwa Province in 2009.
Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa PC Maheepala Herath who is a lover of
sports encourages all public, and particularly the schoolchildren to
participate in sports activities which in the opinion of Chief Minister
Herath, ‘sports a character moulder’ in all men, women and children
throughout the ages.
Therefore, he is anxious to give the foremost priority in the
improvement of sports activities in all sections of the community in
Sabaragamuwa. In this aspect four permanent playgrounds in both
Ratnapura and Kegalle districts will be fully developed.
In this regard to suit the national sports events in 2009, with
immediate effect four esplanades in Sabaragamuwa will be developed as
disclosed to Daily News by the Chief Minister Maheepala Herath.
Those selected playgrounds to launch further development activities
are Kegalle Public Esplanade and Ruwanwella playground in Kegalle
district, and Embilipitiya People’s Esplanade and Ratnapura Public
playground in the heart of Ratnapura city.
The consequent reports pertaining to the development of the
aforementioned playgrounds will be initially handed over to President
Mahinda Rajapaksa shortly. The Chief Minister Maheepala Herath
disclosed.
Meanwhile to discuss matters pertaining to the big national sports
festival in 2009 a meeting was held in the office of Chief Minister of
Sabaragamuwa. Director General of Sports D. B. Dassanayake, the
Secretary of Sports of Sabaragamuwa P. Kodituwakku, the Secretary of the
Sports Affairs in the Ministry of Sports H. G. Kularatne participated in
these deliberations chaired by Chief Minister Maheepala Herath. |
