The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will collect tax payments and lease installment arrears of Government and commercial establishments in Colombo, sources said.

The total arrears is Rs. 4 billion, CMC Commissioner Badra Jayawardane told the Daily News yesterday.

The arrears are from assessment taxes of public and private commercial buildings and properties, trade revenue taxes, entertainment taxes and court fines , Jayawardane said. Jayawardane also said the Sathutu Uyana will be taken back under the direct administration of the CMC. The proposal will be tabled at the coming General Session , she added.

She also said a systematic process will be introduced to lease hoardings.

Vehicle parking facilities in the Colombo Municipal area will be made taxable, Jayawardane said.
