Requisite steps to cancel Water’s Edge deeds today

The Board of Directors of the Urban Development Authority will meet
today (20) with the view of making the requisite arrangements to cancel
all deeds given to Asia Pacific Golf Courses (Pvt) Ltd, (Water’s Edge)
“We will take the necessary measures step by step in deference with
the Supreme Court judgment to take full ownership of the 225 acre block
of land and the future of the premises will be decided after we take the
full ownership of the premises and the land,” Minister of Urban
Development Dinesh Gunawardena told ‘Daily News Business’ yesterday.
The Minister also explained that there are environment issues as well
which are pointed out in the Supreme Court judgment and said that he has
directed the UDA along with the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and
Development Corporation (SLLRDC), the Central Environment Authority (CEA)
and the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha to come up with the appropriate
proposals and implement them expeditiously.
The Minister last Wednesday has directed Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha
officials to act in accordance with the Judgment. “The Supreme Court has
given us clear deadlines and we are working to stay ahead of the
deadline and we are on track,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Asia Pacific Golf Courses (Pvt) Ltd Chairman Sumal Perera
when contacted by Daily News Business to find out the fate of the
employees, the unfinished buildings with the premises and whether he was
going to pursue more golf courses, said that the fate of the unfinished
buildings and employees was currently being studied by the Lawyers and
tat he was not advised to make comments to any media.
