TN parties should urge Tigers to stop attacks - TDNA

A number of Tamil parties in Sri Lanka have asked political outfits in Tamil Nadu to exert "pressure" on the LTTE to halt attacks, instead of blaming the Sri Lankan Government.

The parties also appealed to the political outfits in Tamil Nadu to act with "utmost" responsibility while dealing with the Sri Lankan issue and "pressurise" the Tigers to put an end to the attacks instead of pointing a finger at the Sri Lankan Government.

The Tamil Democratic National Alliance (TDNA) comprising the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (Naba faction) said the LTTE is "solely responsible" for the current humanitarian crisis in Kilinochchi and the rest of the Wanni and is giving a different picture to Tamil Nadu politicians.

"The TDNA called upon the Tamil Nadu political fraternity to put more pressure on the LTTE to stop fighting and enter the political process instead of turning a blind eye towards the arrogant attitude of the outfit".

"If the Tamil Nadu political fraternity and the Central Government of India are genuinely concerned about the safety of the innocent Tamils in the battle-hit areas in the north, they should bring more pressure on the LTTE politically to stop the clashes in the Wanni instead of pointing the finger only at the Government," TULF leader Veerasingham Anandasangaree said.

Anandasangaree alleged that innocent civilians were not allowed to get into safer areas as the LTTE has threatened them and made them to remain as human shields.

"If the LTTE allows innocent civilians who are sandwiched between the warring sides in the Wanni to enter safer areas several innocent lives could be saved," he said.

PLOTE leader Dharmalingam Sitharthan said that Tamil Nadu politicians must not get carried away by the "false propaganda" of the LTTE.

"The LTTE is not allowing the Kilinochchi civilians to go into safer areas and shedding crocodile tears saying that the civilians are suffering without food or medicine. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu Government should bring more pressure on the LTTE in safeguarding helpless civilians who are trapped in the battle-hit areas," Sitharthan said.
