Army chief appointed vice president

Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka was appointed as Vice President of the Kelaniya Dayaka Sabha at the Dayaka Sabha meeting held on last Sunday evening Presided by Chief Incumbent Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara Professor Kollupitiya Mahinda Sangharakkitha Thera. This appointment was in appreciation of the work rendered to the Temple by the Commander.

Buddhist talk

Asoka Devendra will deliver a Public Buddhist talk in English on "Overview of Satipattana Sutta" at a meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society on October 11 at 4.30 p.m. at Maitri Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.

DSS Golden Ball Dinner Dance

the Old Boy's Association of DS. Senanayake College is organising their annual Dinner Dance on October 17 at the Colombo Hilton. This event is held for the past seventeen years. In the proceeds are in aid of development of the College.

Training Programme

The National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka will hold a Special Training Programme on October 11 at 8.00 a.m. at the Stroke Unit of Ward 16, National Hospital, Colombo. This Training Programme is for carers of disable stroke patients and is designed to give awareness as to how such patients should be looked after in their own home environment.

Those interested could register at Ward 16, National Hospital Colombo by telephoning 2691111 Ext. 216 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any weekday.

New probationary ASPs

The National Police Commission has appointed the following as Probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police on the results of the Open Competitive Examination held in November 2007.

This is the first occasion women probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police are appointed.

Office complex opening

The newly constructed office building of Princess of Wales' College Old Girls Union and the Garage complex of Princes of Wales' College which is a donation to the school by the OGM will be open on October 10, at 10 a.m. at the school premises.
