New tele play
The Muhurath ceremony of the new teledrama written and directed by
veteran teledrama director Sarath Gunaratne Bera Handa Ahena Manaya will
be held on October 6 at 10 a.m. at Mahaweli Centre, Colombo 7. Mangala
Madugalla produces the drama.
Kelaniya Campus golden jubilee celebrations
The Executive committee of the Alumni Association of the University
of Kelaniya has decided to publish a souvenir of high literacy value to
mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Kelaniya.
The souvenir will be published in both Sinhala and English and it
will be released towards the end of the year.
The organising committee requests all past graduates of the
university to send articles for publication.
The Articles should be timely, informative and of high academic value
with relevant diagrams, Pictures, Photographs and a colour photograph of
the writer along with the article.
All articles will be scrutinised by an Editorial Board and only
selected ones will be published.

Junior inventor of the year 2008
The final competition to select the most creative and adroit 'Junior
Inventor' of the year 2008 will be held at the Institution of Engineers,
Sri Lanka on October 4. Education Minister Susil Premajayantha will be
the chief guest.
President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, Eng. Ranjith
Gunawardena, President Elect Eng. D. P. Mallawaratchi and the Chief
Organiser of the JIY competition Eng. J. Meegoda will also be present at
the event where 50 young competitors will vie for the coveted title.
Magalle tank
renovation
Renovations to the Magalle tank, the largest irrigation scheme in
Nikaweratiya area will be undertaken shortly by the Irrigation
Department.
"The project will be funded by the Japanese government, according to
the Zonal Irrigation Director, W.L.H.M.T. Bandara.
Navarathri festival
The Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs in
collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Moral
Upliftment will hold the Navarathri festival on Saturday, October 4 and
Sunday, October 5 at the New Kathiresan Hall, Bambalapitiya, Colombo-4
presided by Shanthi Navakarasan, Director of the Department of Hindu
Religious and Cultural Affairs.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pandu Bandaranayake will be the chief
guest while H. M. Herath, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs
will be the guest of honour.
There will also be a 'Kuchchupidi' dance programme by dancer 'Kalaratna',
'Najyamani' Srimathy Deepika Reddy of Hyderabad who was specially
invited by the Indian Cultural Centre.
Quiz contest
The Lions Club of District 306 B 1 (Region 11) will hold the first-
round of the District Inter-School Quiz contest on Saturday October 4 at
Kingston College International (Mutwal branch) commencing at 9.30 a.m.
Lion Dr. Rashida Rashad (MJF), Region Chairperson (Region 11) is
organising the event.
Fellowship night
The Fellowship Night organised by the Lanka-Japan Friendship Society
will be held on October 3 commencing at 7.30 p.m. at the Sasakawa
Memorial Cultural Centre, Colombo 3. |
