Edi-ul-Fitr at Mahara Prison

137 Muslim inmates of the Mahara Prison celebrated the Ramzan Festival-Eid-ul-Fitr yesterday at the Muslim Ward of the Mahara Prison premises.

Presidential Advisor and Media Ombudsman A.H.M. Azwer, Parliamentarian Kabeer Hashim, Joint Secretaries of the All Ceylon Muslim League Fouzul Khaled and Ismath Ghouse, Muslim Media Forum Advisor F.M. Fairoos participated. Azwer requested all to pray for peace and harmony in the country.

The All Ceylon Muslim League organised this celebrations for the 65th successive year. Katheeb Moulavi Abdul Razick (Al Makki) conducted the Eid prayers. Under the guidance of Mahra Prison Superintendent D.B. Kulathunge Chief Jailor J.R. Jayaweera, ASP W.L. Chandrasiri, Chief Welfare Officer J.M. Kulathunge and Welfare Officer Tuan Mahmoor also participated.

A special Dua was recited in memory of Marhoom Katheeb Jezuli Salahudeen who conducted prayers for the Muslim inmates of the Mahara Prison for more than four decades.

Prison authorities thanked the Muslim League, the Pioneer Muslim political body for attending to the religious needs of the Muslim inmates of the prison for more than fifty years without interruption.
