Korean assistance to upgrade vocational training centre

GALLE: The Vocational Training Ministry will enter into an agreement with the Korean Government today to upgrade the Niyagama Vocational Training Centre in the Galle district as a Centre of Excellence.

Under this project, infrastructure facilities in the Centre will be developed on par with international standards. A comprehensive staff training programme and high tec training tools

are expected to be introduced under this project to meet the increasing demand for skilled workers in the overseas employment market.

This project also includes the overseas training programme for vocational training instructors and introduction of advanced training courses for the students.

The Ministry sources said the USAID has funded for the set up of new vocational training centres in Kawanthikuddy, Nindavur, Koggala and Hikkaduwa.

Presidential Senior Advisor Basil Rajapaksa and US Ambassador Robert O' Blake will open the Thalalla Vocational Training Centre in Matara funded by the USAID on September 04.
