New Principal of Trinity College, Kandy
Brigadier (Rtd) W. G. K. Udaya Aryaratne RSP, USP, C.Eng(I), AMIE has
been appointed Acting Principal of Trinity College, Kandy from November
01, with a view to his eventual appointment as Principal. The
appointment has been approved by the Education Ministry in terms of the
Assisted Schools and Unaided Schools Regulations 1983, the Board of
Governors of Trinity College announced.
Brigadier Aryaratne is an old boy of Trinity (1959-1967) and served
as an officer in the Sri Lanka Army from 1973 to 1988 winning several
awards and retiring as a Brigadier.
Book launch
Two books by well-known writer and environmentalist Dayaratne
Dalawella titled ‘Kadadasi Oru’ and ‘Vides Kavimihira’ will be launched
at the Kalutara District Secretariat Auditorium under the patronage of
Kalutara District Secretary, S. Hapuarachchi on September 27 at 9 a.m.
Ariyawansa Ranawira and writers Kamal Perera and Sarath Wijesuriya will
address the audience on selected topics.
Handicraft exhibition

A handicraft exhibition titled ‘Living with nature’ organised by the
Central Province Sports Industries and Rural Development Ministry will
be held at Queens Hotel, Kandy from September 23 to 25.
The exhibition will be opened by Central Province Chief Minister
Sarath Ekanayake and Central Province Minister of Industries S. Arulsamy.
This exhibition will be a forum for local handicraftsmen to market
their produce.
Rat fever threat in Matara

Cases of leptospirosis (Rat fever) are reported from several
hospitals in the Matara district, Deputy Director of Health Services
(Southern) Dr. Sanath de Silva said.
Addressing a conference at the media house Matara recently he said
from January to June 30 2008, 189. leptospirosis patients were admitted
to the Matara General Hospital while 17 of them died.
The Deputy Director warned that villagers around Hakmana,
Kamburupitiya Pasgoda, Akuressa, Urubokka, Deiyandara and Dikwella
should be more cautious when engaged in farming during the rainy
weather.
The symptoms of the disease are severe headache, high fever and body
pain. Those suffering from above symptoms should come to the hospital
immediately. Adequate drugs for the disease are available Matara General
Hospital Director Dr. Aruna Gayasekara said. |
