Student signals new way to prevent train accidents
Mohammed Naalir
Amila Randhika, a student of De Mazenod College, Kandana has invented
a signal grid equipment to minimise injuries caused to train commuters
during an accident.
The invention is expected to minimise damage and harm caused to
commuters during the train journey. Amila met Transport Minister Dullas
Alahapperuma at the Ministry and explained features and benefits of the
new invention to the Minister.
Minister Alahapperuma promised Amila he will take measures to develop
this equipment after consulting the relevant company. He also promised
to make other arrangements along with the Railway Department.
Minister Alahapperuma expressed confidence that after its
introduction, accidents taking place frequently on railway tracks could
be minimised considerably. A receiver will be affixed to the engine and
the machine will consist of two circuits.
The transmitter of the equipment will give signal 400 metres ahead in
case of disaster.
At unsafe level crossings and places where colour lights are not
available, the driver will be able to take precautionary action to avoid
any accidents, Ministry sources said. |
