Poetry

" My grief lies all within,
And these external manners of lament
Are merely shadows to the unseen grief,
That swells with silence
In the tortured soul.

Solitude

When the day is over
Night is drawing high
Shadows of the evening steal
Across the sky
Tear drops are falling
From my weary eyes
I close my eye lids
and loneliness spreads
all around me.
I have no loved ones to be with me
Only Dear God protects me
and keeps me safe till noon.

Adios Amigo!

Neville, Sunie, Ramanayake
All gone - No more for sure
Benar, Eric and Anton
Teachers of yesteryear
Far, far, away oh! only misty images

Rock fortress, clock tower,
and the butterfly bridge
College, convent and
St. Mary's cathedral
Minus, my friend
Wickramaratne Neville!

Vacant feelings amidst,
Flashes a line or two
of a song across my mind-thru'
I have seen the wonders of the world,
and sailed the seven seas,
But most of all, I was longing
To see, was my old home town
and you!
Sorry, compadre, nil in time
To say adios! Peace be upon
You!

Twin Towers

Once they stood like giants
Proudly projecting to the sky
Elegant and breathtaking
Shining like silver under the sunbeam
After the terrible event that took many lives
Twin Towers are no more
Now they are in ruins
Leaving pain and sorrow in many hearts

Tribute

Awards are won,
Honours and titles are given,
In appreciation of great work and service,
Trophies, plaques and medals,
Awarded in grand ceremonies
Amidst loud applause and cheer,
Proudly go home with the owner,
To stay on a special stand.
Time takes its voyage without halting,
The achievements are forgotten,
And services are no longer remembered.
Cobwebs garland the trophies graciously
While the metals tarnish and
Fade into blackening colours, and
They all become things of the past.
While the owner grew older,
The awards too have gone to decay,
Reminding that decay and death
Is the ultimate order of the world,
And they remain in their rusty appearance
Doing a service in their own way,
By filling the feeble heart of the owner,
With a ray of happiness and unique satisfaction,
In his old empty days,
Forgotten and discarded by the world.

Is love

a dew drop?

You said love shall be fine.
As long as you and I shine.
For the radiance of the sun,
And the light of the blue moon.

You said only we should be on earth.
Be lovers to make the earth mirth.
You whispered 'I love you' into my ears,
When meeting or over the phone for years.

Your innocent smile, twinkling eyes,
To be admired were really so nice.
Suddenly everything stopped to my dismay,
I stood still without a say.

Do you hate me, if so dear why?
Do you think that I am a dirty guy?
Whatever it is, I shall forever wait,
Expecting your love to end my fate.

My Brethren Soldier

Blessed be your bold soul
When you guard the native soil
From the ghostly shadows
Lurking under the palmyrah trees.

Blessed be your beloved wife
Who fills your heart with pangs of love
For the Fatherland you valiantly protect
And the future of your darling child.

And blessed be your lovable teachers
Who tuned the strings of your heart
To feel the warmth of the mother earth
With unending love to see her smile.

Blessed be your affectionate parents
Who tilled the land and wiped sweat
To see you grow to be a man of courage
With immortal songs to praise the motherland.

Hallowed Presence

How could you appear
So humble
When hundreds are there
To worship you

How could you seem
So close
When we are
So many metres away

Your orange form
Shines like a flame
Illuminating us
With divine light

We are in silent Bhavana
Meditating on your
Good deeds
Spread out at Puttapathi
For us to see

Once a parched hamlet
Now a little city
A symbol of your
Benevolence to mankind

You ask for nothing
Only our good deeds
Good thoughts
And love for all
