Cartoonists a special and unique class of journalists - President
Rohan Mathes
Lauding the role of cartoonists, President Mahinda Rajapaksa asserted
that all politicians should have the strength and goodwill to appreciate
the humour depicted in the creative works of cartoonists.
The President made this assertion when he met Cartoonists of the
country’s newspapers at a function where a publication named ‘Mul
Pituwata Genna Cartoon’ (Cartoons for the First Page), compiled from
cartoons collected from the country’s newspapers, had been presented to
him at Temple Trees last Friday.
He said that cartoonists who had no political bias in them were a
special and unique class of journalists. “They performed an arduous task
of giving the readership a strong political message with a right mix of
humour in it” the President added.
Media and Information Minister Anura Priya Darshana Yapa, Lake House
Chairman Bandula Padmakumara and leading Cartoonists of the country’s
newspapers also participated at the meeting. |
