The Child Protection Society of Ceylon has done an excellent job for
the protection of young lives and young minds, said Wijaya Publications
Chairman Ranjith Wijewardene at the 80th Annual General Meeting of the
society held at the BMICH recently.
Society President S. S. Wijeratne presided over the meeting.
Wijewardene said "I was a first time visitor to one of the Child
Protection homes some weeks ago, on the occasion of the unveiling of
past President Chandra de Silva's photograph at the society hall.
On my way home that day, I could only reminisce the good deeds
Chandra had done for the Child Protection Society. It was actually on
that day, after being physically present at the home that what had
hitherto been to me a somewhat abstract measure of good work, translated
in my mind to what I now see as an actual potent force for the
protection of young lives and young minds."
Chandra did mention some of those instances to me. Next to Ecology
this Society was his passion. Those restless spirits who are passionate
about a cause constitute a rare breed, and I think we all feel Chandra's
loss in many ways, Wijewardene said.
Wijewardene in his address to the young boys, girls and to the
Society officials said "I am honestly and sincerely full of admiration
for what you do here. If I can, in some way help to bring about a
greater awareness of that work I would be happy to do so."
"I am certain that behind the faces of cheerful innocence that I saw
at the home, there must lurk many complex problems of deprivation not
least of love and affection, which you all try your best to compensate
for, Wijewardene added. |
