Minister Devananda tells Jaffna students: Put your talents to good
Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda
observing the inventions of Jaffna District students said these
inventions should be made use of for the development of society and the
country as a whole.
The Minister who viewed these inventions told the students to put
their creative talents for the benefit of the country.
“Put your talents to good use”, the Minister told the students.
Minister Devananda said all evil elements in the Jaffna District have
been rid of and as dark forces like the LTTE were not in existence
there, the natural talents of Jaffna students could be constructively
directed for the well being of the people.
The Minister was extremely happy to observe the talents of the
students directed for useful purposes and assured them of providing
necessary facilities for furthering their endeavours. The inventions
included, a seawater purification plant by Sobhitha Kamalarajha from
Chundikuli Girl’s College, mosquito coils manufactured from Margosa leaf
mixture by Miss.
Renuka Amirthalingam, a water spray machine by Kado Kasan, coconut
scraping and vegetable cutting machine by Udaya Kumar Rayanthan, reading
glasses that can be used at night by Rajendran Ruwendran, a wallet that
emits sounds when stolen invented by Ambujan, a vegetable cutting
machine by Vidushan, A walking stick that can be used at night, Shoes
for walking at night, a broom that can be used at night by Nalladasan
Prasanthan, A rat trap by Suresh Kumar Darshan, a machine to cut
vegetables manually and with electric power by S. Prathapan from Jaffna
Central College, etc. were the inventions which grabbed the Minister’s
