Government to enter LP Gas market

Colombo: Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M.
Fowzie yesterday disclosed that the Government will enter the gas market
by December with a stock 50 mt at first.
A 12.5kg of domestic cylinder will cost Rs.500 less than current rate
of the market. Addressing in the Weekly Cabinet Briefing, the Minister
said that the initial steps have already been taken to carry out this
project. “We are in the process of calling tenders to purchase
cylinders,” the Minister added. The gas prices in the world market are
always fluctuating and the burden of this price hike has to be borne up
by consumers.
“This will be a great alternative solution to reduce the burden of
consumers who face great difficulties once the gas prices go up in the
world market.” “The Government is committed to provide maximum relief to
people and with the entry of this locally manufactured gas to the
market, consumers will be provided by gas at a concessionary rates,” the
Minister said. |
