The Government extends its fullest co-operation to those who conduct
scientific research and invest in modern technology based industries,
Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya said at
a meeting organised for the representatives of related private companies
seeking Government’s assistance for their products and researches.
There are only a few number of students who could obtain professional
qualifications and join the development process. Lack of proficiency in
English language is another problem, the Minister said.
Only about 20,000 students will get a chance to get university
admissions. This number is not adequate when comparing with other
countries, the Minister added.
More avenues should be opened to overcome the limited opportunities
in highest studies especially in professional education, Jayasuriya
stressed.
Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana said the
Government is keen on motivating youth to acquire scientific knowledge
and apply them on country’s development process.
The Government has already decided to provide foreign training for
skill development in scientific methods which can be applied to form
scientific societies in the country.
Minister Vitharana said special industrial sites will be set up in
Homagama and Biyagama for those who come bring high technology and
invest in modern innovations such as nano-technology.
Representatives from world reputed companies dealing with high
technology were present at the meeting and the co-operation of Sri
Lankan scientists presently on foreign assignments were confirmed at the
discussion. |
