Saranga - only newcomer in Sri Lanka 7’s squad

The national selection committee of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union which met yesterday selected the Sri Lanka Sevens rugby squad which will take part in the Singer-SriLankan Rugby Sevens which will be worked off at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium, Kandy from September 5 to 7, 2008.

The selectors have left out Ashan de Costa, Mohamed Sheriff, Sharo Fernando and Chula Susantha from the 14-member pool which was picked last week in preparation for the tournament.

Isipathana schoolboy Sajith Saranga is the only newcomer in the Sri Lanka squad which will be led by Kandy SC centre Pradeep Liyanage who will be leading the Sri Lanka Sevens squad for the second successive year.

The Sri Lanka Sevens squad:

Pradeep Liyanage (Captain), Sanjeewa Jayasinghe, Saliya Kumara, Fazil Marija (all from Kandy SC), Amjad Buksh, Lasintha de Costa, Ashen Karthelis (all from CR and FC), Dilanka Wijesekera (CH and FC), Wasim Thajudeen (Havelocks) and Sajith Saranga (Isipathana).
