Obama will be ‘extraordinary President- Wife

US: Michelle Obama pledged to Americans and the world Monday that her husband Barack Obama would be an “extraordinary president” who would give all children the chance to fulfill their dreams.

Seeking to flesh out the Democratic White House hopeful’s biography, she sought to reassure the cheering crowd that her husband’s meteoric career was an American story and that he shared the values of all ordinary Americans.

“I come here as a wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president,” Obama, 44, told cheering delegates in her opening night keynote speech at the Democratic National convention here.

“I come here as a mom whose girls are the heart of my heart and the center of my world,” said Obama, mother to two young daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Dressed in a simple, turquoise blue shift dress, Michelle Obama was greeted by a standing ovation as she walked onto the stage in the Pepsi Convention center and embraced her brother Craig Robinson who introduced her. Delegates went wild, leaping to their feet and brandishing vertical banners bearing the word “Michelle.”

She spoke movingly about the first time she heard Barack Obama address a community gathering as part of his volunteer work in Chicago.
