'Dicey' health workers nabbed in Kandy

COLOMBO: Four health workers attached to the Kandy Teaching Hospital
were nabbed by Kandy police while gambling during duty hours. Healthcare
and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva ordered an inquiry into
the incident last night, a Ministry spokesman said.
The spokesman said the four health workers were gambling in Kandy
town during the day while on duty. They had signed in and then gone out
for gambling.
The Administrative Officer of the Kandy Teaching Hospital has
informed the ministry about the incident, the spokesman said. According
to the spokesman, the Ministry's Special Investigation Unit conducted an
inquiry and will hand over the report to Ministry Secretary Dr. Athula
Kahandaliyanage today.
Disciplinary action will be taken against the four workers after the
report. It is reported that the four health workers are attached to the
trade union which launched a strike recently.
