Security Forces recovered accessories used for suicide jackets
yesterday morning inside a Catholic Church premises in Olcott Mawatha,
Colombo.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said following
information, the Army bomb squad launched a search operation in the
vicinity of St. Phillip Nehri's Church, Pettah and found material used
for suicide jackets yesterday around 8.50 a.m. "The suicide jacket
materials were concealed in a bag hidden inside the church premises," he
added.
The Army recovered 19 detonators, 23 switches (each MR type-11, PT
type-11 and PR type-1), five remote antennae and a hand bag.
Fort police are investigating.
Meanwhile, police in Balagolla, Kandy unearthed a C4 explosive bomb
last morning dumped in front of a house under a heap of sand. Police
spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said following a call to the Kandy
Police emergency, a police team from Kandy rushed to the scene round
7.30 am and uncovered a bomb weighing one kg dumped under a heap of sand
in front of a house in the Balagolla area.
"The bomb contained seven gelignite sticks, C-4 high explosives, two
detonators, 138 balls and 2.5 feet wire code and it was primed to
explode any time," SSP Gunasekera told the Daily News.
Balagolla police are investigating. |
