Lieutenant General Fonseka impressed by ground achievements gained by his troops in the Wanni theatre of humanitarian operations, commended General Officer Commanders in Divisions and all soldiers on their commitment and contribution to the Nation at this critical juncture.

“I am very happy with the progress so far made on all Wanni fronts. We are now quite close to Kilinochchi. Though our future targets would be more challenging, I am sure we would be able to face them. Try to maintain the highest degree of morale among soldiers by speaking to all of them. Let us reach our targets with determination in the near future,” Lieutenant General Fonseka told the gathering of Divisional and Brigade Commanders who briefed him on the current developments in respective areas.

At the outset, Major General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander, Security Forces, Wanni outlined the security concerns to the visiting military chief and drew his attention to several administrative and logistics matters. Lieutenant General Fonseka gave a hearing to his General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders during the meeting where he, in turn commented on matters of concern, raised by them and advised them.

Major General Athula Jayawardena, 21 Divisional Commander in Wanni received the Commander on arrival.

Several senior Army officers, attached to the Colombo Army Headquarters were associated during the discussion at the Wanni Security Forces Headquarters.
