Launch of three books

The launch of three books Marie Makendiran's Puthiya Kathawugal, Kalai Chelwan's Oru Kalangerin Kadai and Maruthur Jamaldeen's Thadayangal and first anniversary of Purawalar Puththaka Poonga will be held on August 24 at 4.30 p.m. at the Brighton Rest, Messenger Street, Colombo 12. It will be held under the patronage of Purawalar Puththaka Poonaga founder and ITN Director Hashim Omar.

Dr. Maheswaran will preside and Ravi Thamilwanan will address the gathering.

Pre-Ramadhan Bazar

A Pre-Ramadhan Bazar organised by the Young Muslim Women's League will be held on August 23 from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. at 9/1, Robert Gunawardena Mawatha, Kirulapone.

Food, sweets, clothing, handbags and gifts will be available.

All proceeds will be donated for charitable causes.

Culture of Islam

Topics from an Islamic perspective are broadcast over the English Service of the SLBC on the Culture of Islam programme every friday from 9.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

The resource personnel are Dr. Mareena Thaha Reffai, Naadira Rameez, Saadiqa Fouz and Fathima Shifani Reffai. The Moderator is Sherifa Thahir.

Q & A on fasting

A Q & A session exclusively on "Fasting in the month of Ramazan" for males will be held on August 25 after Isha prayers at Majma-ul Khairaah Jummah Mosque, Nimal Road - Marine Drive intersection, Colombo 4.

The resource person is Islamic scholar Sheik Mufthi M. H. M. Yoosuf (Bin Noori). All are welcome.

Free lecture

Almuslimaath, an Association of Muslim Women and Girls, have organised a Bayaan (discourse) for women on "Fasting in the month of Ramazan" on August 23 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at Malsara Hall, Dehiwala.

Panel discussions

The third in a series of panel discussions on Human Rights laying special emphasis on youth, organised by the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies will be held on August, 28 from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. at the BCIS auditorium.

The topic for this month will focus on 'Capacity Building of Youth through Freedom of Expression '. Dr. Deepika Udugama, Head, Law Faculty, University of Colombo and Dr. Dhamma Dissanayake, Lecturer in Political Science and Public Policy, Open University will be the speakers.

The public is welcome to attend the event.

The 49th Annual General Meeting of the Moratuwa-Piliyandala District Scout Association will be held on August 24 at 4.00 p.m. at the Rattanapitiya Ananda Model School, Boralesgamuwa.

K. D. Anura Priyashantha, Mayor-Boralesgamuwa will participate as the Chief Guest on the invitation of the District Commissioner R. M. Srilath de Silva.

The Police Headquarters, Colombo has released pictures of certain missing persons to seek public help tracing them.

Herath Mudiyanselage Sudumenika of 61B, Lathugala, Weranketagoda, Ampara is missing from March 26, 2008. She is 33, height 4' 8'', lean and tan, curly hair. Any information relating to her whereabouts may be sent to 663-5612103 or 063-2224963.

Dimuthulatha Muthumali Perera of 207/7, Sharamadana Mawatha, Delatara, Ja-ela is missing from August 12, 2008. She is 20 years, height 5', lean and tan, curly hair and dressed last in a printed skirt and blouse. Information about her may be sent to 077-5785859 or 077-162159.
