Army Chief reviews progress on Wanni fronts
Enthusiastic about the gains made by troops advancing in the Wanni
front, Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka who visited the
Security Forces Headquarters in Wanni (SFHQ-W) yesterday morning,
reviewed the status quo in relation to ongoing operations against
terrorism.
The Army Chief during his interaction with senior ground Commanders
at the SFHQ-W, exchanged views and received a comprehensive account of
ground realities in Welioya, Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu fronts.
Review of military gains achieved by his troops, consolidation of
troop positions, search and clearing operations with parallel de-mining
work in progress, coordination work of the troops, conduct of
offensives, assessment of LTTE resistance and enemy strategies and
conduct of future military operations were among issues taken up during
the Wanni meeting, attended by Major General Jagath Jayasuriya,
Commander, SFHQ-W and a few accompanying senior officers, flown from the
Army Headquarters.
SFHQ-W Commander and other Commanders of Divisions and Brigades
briefed the Army Commander on security developments in respective areas
and sought his instructions to carry out their duties further.
The Army Commander contended with multi-pronged ongoing military
offensives as Tiger strongholds in Kilinochchi and Mullaittvu districts
fall one after the other, wanted his troops to further seal any possible
routes for infiltration of terrorists into captured and dominating
areas. |
