Optic Surgical Unit for Ambilipitiya hospital

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has renovated the Optic Surgical Unit of the Embilipitiya Base Hospital at a cost of Rs. 10 million.

The Ministry spent Rs. 3 million, the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Rs. 3 million and NGOs spent 4.5 million for this project. The Ministry also handed over five double cabs worth of Rs. 45 million to Kiriella, Nivithigala, Balangoda, Kahawatta and Embilipitiya MOH offices. Visual equipment worth of Rs. 1 million were also donated.

Earlier around 600,000 people in Embilipitiya had to visit Ratnapura, Matara or Hambantota hospitals to seek eye treatment. Some patients had been transferred to the Colombo Eye hospital for further treatment. But now people can obtain quality eye care from Embilipitiya Base Hospital.
