Special investigation unit busts bogus foreign employment agencies

Special Investigation Unit of Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) raided
four bogus foreign employment agencies last week which were operating
for several years under the guise of boarding agencies using the name of
Foreign Employment Promotions and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella
as a cover.
The four bogus agencies all luxuriously fitted and operating for
several years were raided by a special team of the FEB last week, FEB
Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said.
The bogus foreign employment agencies were identified as Fing Lanka
in Yatinuwara Road, Kandy, Trans Asia in Kiribathkumbura, Lasan
Enterprises in Katugastota and an agency at a house in Gurukele, Galaha.
“Some of these agencies were using Minister Rambukwella’s name to
convince their customers to pay a large amount of money and the agents
promised them to find employment in New Zealand and other countries in
Europe”, Ranawaka told the Daily News.
He said the raids were carried out following information from
civilians and intelligence sources, adding that public cooperation with
the FEB is gradually increasing and this should be developed to overcome
this problem.
Ranawaka stressed that public should be vigilant of the bogus foreign
employment agencies and inform the FEB or the authorities to nab
culprits.
The “Public should be vigilant and public awareness plays a vital
role to nab the bogus foreign employment agencies”, he added. |
