Review:
Selvi Mathura enthralled the audience
A distinguished and an appreciative audience packed the New
Kathiresan Hall, Bambalapitiya recently to enjoy the Bharatha Natya
Arangetram of Mathura Shanmuganathan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. V. S.
Shanmuganathan and disciple of Srimathy Thiriveni Sangar of
Natyakeshatra.

The Chief Guest was Professor Saba Jeyarasa, President of Colombo
Tamil Sangam while Srimathy Sivananthy Haridharshan, Director, Nirthana
School of Dance Mrs. Sivananthy Haridharshan and Principal, Colombo
Hindu Ladies College Mrs. Pathma Gajendradas were the guests of honor.
Selvi Mathura Shanmuganathan is a student of Colombo Saiva Mangaiyar
Kalagam and she has undergone intensive and extensive training in
Bharatha Natyam for the last 9 years under the able guisance of Srimathy
Thiriveni Sangas of Natyakshetra.
In fact, Selvi Mathura Shanmuganathan has participated in several
dance perforamcnes like Seetha Sujamvaram, Ramayanam produced by
Srimathy Theriveni Sangas of Natyashekra. Besides, Selvi Mathura has
presented Dance dramas in Shakthi TV and Eye Channel. In 2003, she has
performed “Vishvakalapavani” and in 2007 “Akshanam”.
Selvi Mathura recently sat for the Bharatha Natya Examination (Grade
4) conducted by North Ceylon Music Society. She distinguishes herself in
studies and sports as well. In 2008 Tamil language competition (Grade 4)
she got the first place.
Selvi Mathura began her dance performances with Pushpanjali followed
by Jatheeswaram and Nadaraja Kouthuwam. After a musical interlude she
performed Varnam followed by Patham, Keerthanam and finally Thillana.
Even the vocal by Shri Arunanthy Aruran enhanced Selvi Mathura’s
dance performances to a great extent. Indeed, Selvi Mathura
Shanmuganathan has a bright future and undoubtedly she is a rising sar
in the sphere of Bharatha Natyam.
