Shri Ram - A Dance Drama

To celebrate the 61st Anniversary of India’s Independence:

Shri Ram - A dance drama produced and directed by Kalasuri Arunthathy Sri Ranganathan, will be presented by the Aru Sri Art Theatre, at the Kularathne Hall, Ananda College, Colombo 10 on August 15, 2008 at 6.30 p.m.

The dance drama will present the story of Ramayana - the ancient Indian epic, which narrates a story of unconditional devotion, heart wrenching separations and blissful reunion.

Kalasuri Arunthathy Sri Ranganathan is a multifaceted personality, senior broadcaster, a renowned musician of great repute, composer, choreographer, media consultant and lecturer par excellence.

She is well known for her dynamic innovations in music compositions, especially for dance and concerts. Her choreography in music and dance drama is widely used by dancers around the world.

She is also the Artist Director for many local and international art festivals. Her flair for art and cultural identity and her valuable contributions has fetched many titles and honours, both national and international. Presently she is the media consultant and lecturer at the University of Visual and Performing Arts and also former Director Tamil service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

The dance drama has been choreographed by S. Guhendran, Chandana Wickramasinghe, Abiramy and Luxmi, primarily in Bharatha Natyam style with flavours from other traditions such as Kathakali, Kathak and Sri Lankan Kandyan dance. Skilled professional artistes from Chandana Wickramasinghe and his dancer’s guild and the Aru Sri Art Theatre are performing in the production.

The troupe has also participated in the International Ramayana Festival in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh in March 2008 and won wide acclaim in the Indian press for their performance.
