Airport location shifted, says Minister Chamal Rajapaksa

The construction of the Weerawila airport has been shifted to a location in between Weerawila and Maththala at the request of the farming community and residents, said the Minister of Port and Civil Aviation Chamal Rajapaksa.

The Minister said so addressing the gathering in between the monthly District Development Committee (DDC) meeting at Singapore Welfare Centre at Siribopura new town.

He said that the new location is in between Kadjuwaththa and Maththala at Weerawila. He said that the location was shifted considering the request of the residents and the farming community.

The earlier location was being developed by the Department of Irrigation step by step for the past several decades and the construction of the airport will hamper the development activities.
