Crime roundup, Sexual abuse suspect remanded

A seven year old girl has been allegedly sexually abused by a 65 year
old man who happened to be her neighbour at Welathawa Godelleyaya is the
Bingiriya police area.
According to police information it is revealed that the parents of
the girl had gone to work when the 65 year old neighbour had come to
play with the child.
However, the suspect had denied the charges but the child had
complained that the suspect had abused her thereafter the mother of the
child had lodged a complaint with the Bingiriya police.
The child had been admitted to the Chilaw hospital for medical
checkup while the suspect had been produced before the Kuliyapitiya
Magistrate and was remanded.
OIC Bingiriya police is conducting further inquiries. One person was
killed and four others were seriously injured in a brawl between
villagers and a family in Tambagolle Pedigama in the Wellawa police area
on Saturday.
The injured were admitted to Kurunegala Teaching Hospital. Police
information reveals that there had been an argument between the members
of the family when the villagers had intervened.
A family member had got angry over the intervention of the villagers
and had shouted at the villagers when the brawl flared up.
Police information also reveals that the villagers had then assaulted
a family member when a person who had been working in the kitchen had
come rushing with a knife and had allegedly stabbed five villagers
killing one on the spot and seriously injuring five others.
Police said that this person had done so for protection. The victim
had been identified as Sunil Kemawansa (30) a father of a child and a
resident of Pedigama. Kemawansa and two others were taken to custody and
were produced before courts.
An army deserter had been arrested by the Katupotha police on
Saturday for allegedly extorting Rs. 100 from a bus driver.
Police information reveals that he had been involved in a number of
extortion cases.
OIC Katupotha police Lakdasa Abeygunasekara said that he is to be
produced before courts after the investigations are over. |
