Speed up coastal railway work, says Minister

Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma instructed authorities to expedite work on the coastal railway line initiated at Matara.

Accordingly, it has been decided to close the coastal railway line between Matara and Galle for four months, District Railway Engineer Priyantha Deegala, told the Daily News. Under the credit line of India, US $ 168 million would be utilised to construct the coastal railway line.

Once the construction is completed, the Railways Department will operate trains on the coastal railway line at a speed of 100 miles per hour cutting down travel time.
