Wesley clinch Suntel Trophy

Wesley College showed their class by clinching the Suntel Trophy by beating the fancied St. Peter's College 7 points (1 goal) to 5 (1 try) in a closely fought final played at St. Peter's Grounds, Colombo 4 on 2nd and 3rd of August.

Wesley's only try was planted by their skipper Azmil Omar who played a captains game. At half time Wesley led 7 nil with skipper Azmil scoring a superb try near the post when tackled by the opponents. the try was converted by himself.

After the turn around five minutes after half time winger of St. Peter's M.Dias went for a try near the corner flag, while the kick at goal was not taken.

Thus Wesley were leading 7 nil during the full time to the whistle of Referee D. Nimal. More than 300 participants from 12 leading schools from Western Province took part in this tournament which was organised by the Western Province Schools RFA and sponsored by 'Suntel Ltd.'

The chief guest was Lalindra Fernando (Brand Manager Suntel Ltd.,) while the guest of honour were J.G. Amarajeewa (Principal Lumbini) and Pathmakumara Rodrigo (Vice President WPSRFA and Treasurer Sri Lanka Schools RFA).

Susantha Mendis (Secretary WPSRFA) and Prasantha Ranaweera (Treasurer WPSRFA) also gave away the awards.

The results: Cup -

Wesley College, Colombo beat St. Peters College, Colombo 4, 7 points to 5. Plate:- Science College (Mount Lavinia) beat Ananda College, Colombo 10, 7 points to nil. BOWL: Isipathana College beat Thurstan College, Colombo 14 points to nil.

Shield: Mahanama College, Colombo 3 beat Prince of Wales, Moratuwa 21 points to nil while the SAUCER award was won by D. S. Senanayake College who beat Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya 12 points to 5.
