UDA to provide 1,000 houses to needy

Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Area Dinesh Gunawardhana said in Horana that under the second stage of Arunodaya Kusum Housing Development Scheme launched by Urban Development Authority, another 1000 new houses would be put up for poor homeless families for which 125 million rupees would be incurred.

The Minister was addressing a meeting held at Galedandugoda, Horana at the occasion of handing over the ownership of 48 houses to houseless families in Horana electorate under the Arunodaya Kusum Housing scheme launched by Urban Development Authority.

The Minister also said,’ The first stage of Housing scheme of constructing 1000 houses has been just over and the UDA assisted Rs. 125,000 to each house and 125 m rupees have already been provided. The project has been a success.

The UDA started a special tax to houses and buildings constructed in Urban areas in the extension of 5000 s.f. and over.

The money received from the taxes has been utilised for this purpose.

The government alone can’t solve the problems of the people and the country. So the assistance of the public and Phillenthropists is needed.

So to make the housing project success people in the area assists in various ways. So the house owners will be able to complete their houses putting their energy and interest for the construction of their own success’. ‘Adding houses to rural areas and urban areas as a sign of development.

Homeless people lead miserable lives dreaming of a house. Getting a house for their with aid is a and a luck for them.

They will be able to do their work satisfactorily and fortunate their children can do their studies with a happy mind.

In fact, providing a shelter for a homeless has been of great importance for them.”

Providing of houses to homeless Gama Neguma, Maga Neguma and Samurdhi Housing Projects are a part of Mahinda Chinthana programme. In this way the concept, Mahinda Chinthana in carried to the doorsteps of poor masses.”

Vidura Wicramanayake, Horana SLFP Chief Organiser said that under the instruction of Prime Minister, a massive development programme for Horana town has been underway with the assistance of Urban Development Authority (UDA) and it would get a new look in a few years.

Horana Pola would also be constructed shortly and Horana, Ingiriya and Moraganhane towns would also be developed under this programme.

The Ven. Rajakeeya Pandita Horana Pannasekara Thera Mr. Granwil Rajapaksa, Horana TCM, Miss Sulochana Gamage, UDA also spoke.

The Minister distributed the certificate of ownerships of 48 houses to beneficiary families.
