ASPI, MPI notch up gains

The indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange continued to notch up gains with the ASPI gaining seven points (+0.3%) to close at 2,480 while the MPI, which tracks the most liquid stocks, gained 16 points (+0.5%) to close at 2969.

Total turnover for Monday was Rs 193.7 million mainly driven by interest in Distilleries (Rs 29.7 million), Associated Motorways (Rs 17.9 million) and CIC - nonvoting (Rs 13.1 million). HNB Assurance (HASU) released its results for the second quarter ending June 2008.

The company reported a 49% increase in revenue to Rs 438 million, and a 3% in profits to Rs 10.5 million for the June quarter. For the half-year ended June, HASU’s revenues increased 45% to Rs 816.6 while its profits increased by 4% to Rs 24.6 million.

Reported EPS for the six months: 66 cents. HASU closed the day at Rs 23.75.
