Navy raids islet, four Tigers killed

Naval troops on Saturday raided the Iranathivu islet located in the West of Nachchikuda destroying a Fibre Glass Dinghy killing four Tiger cadres after deploying its elite Special Boat Squadron and the Rapid Action Boat Squadron in pursuit of the Tiger boats fleeing Vellankulam which fell to the Security Forces.

A Navy Spokesman told the Daily News that the SBS and RABS deployed in the sea off Vellankulam detected the Tiger boat movement and launched this attack after pursuing the boats towards Nachchikuda and Iranathivu island.

The Iranathivu island is used by the LTTE as a transit camp during their sea movements. “The Naval troops also captured one Fibre Glass Dinghy Boat, a medical stretcher and some fuel cans after raiding the transit camp in Iranativu island,” the spokesman added. Meanwhile Naval troops also attacked some Tiger boats moving towards Nachchikuda area too.
