K. G. Dinesha Dilhani a student of Ovitigamuwa Maha Vidyalaya
Puhulwella is diagnosed with a spine deformity. Consultant Orthopaedic
Surgeon National Hospital Colombo M. Wasantha Perera has recommended
undergo her an urgent surgery to rectify the defect which is estimated
to cost Rs. 450,000.
Dinesha’s mother M.A. Rani says she is unable to foot this bill and
requests philanthropists and the public to send whatever contributions
possible to help to expedite the surgery. All contributions should be
remitted to A/C Number 4514063 of Bank of Ceylon Kamburupitiya branch.
New Town Hall complex
The Matara Municipal Council has decided to build a new town hall
complex close to Nilwala Ganga at Thanayamwatta, in Pinkumbura in the
Uyanwatta division Matara.
Lankan joins Ramon Magsaysay honours list
A humanitarian worker who has helped the traumatized victims of the
Boxing Day Tsunami in Sri Lanka, Ananda Galappatti has been awarded the
Ramon Magsaysay Award for an emergent leader, the Manila, Philippines
based award committee announced.
The 34 year-old psychologist who specialized in trauma worked in
Batticaloa, a worst hit area of the tsunami disaster to ease the trauma
of the victims to be recognised and to be included as one of the
distinguished list of the awardees who won prestigious prizes from Sri
Lanka.
SLANA marks 20th anniversary

Sri Lanka Anti Narcotics Association (SLANA) held several ceremonies
to mark their 20th anniversary in Colombo including a photographic
competition in two categories.
One for youth-amateurs and other for professionals.
Awards were presented to winners in the photographic competition at a
ceremony held at the ‘Art Gallary’ recently.
Chief guest film producer and a director Sumithra Peris presented the
awards to the winners.
Minister funds Rs. 70,000 for community centre

A new community centre at Peragahamula a remote village in the
Ambagamuwa (Ginigathena) DS division in the Nuwara Eliya district is to
be constructed by the Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat.
The Nuwara Eliya district MP and the Minister of Investment Promotion
Navin Dissanayake has funded Rs. 70,000 from his parliamentary
decentralised budget - 2008 for construction of the community centre
which was a long felt need for the village of Peragahamula. With the
commissioning of the new community centre, residents of the village of
Peragahamula will be able to carry out their community development
activities conveniently.
