Second phase of flyover opens today
COLOMBO: The second phase of the Jeyaraj Fernandopulle Memorial
flyover bridge constructed on the Kandy Colombo road to ease the traffic
congestion at the Kelaniya level crossing will be commissioned today at
5 p.m. under the patronage of Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka.
The second phase of the fly over at Kelaniya has been constructed
within 75 days under a concept initiated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The dual lane flyover to facilitate the traffic flow at the Kelaniya
level crossing is 325 meters in length 7.4 meters in width. The project
has been completed at a cost of Rs.1,050 million. The whole project
estimated to cost Rs. 2,100 million is funded by the British Government.
The construction work of this flyover was commenced on the initiative
former Highways and Road development Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.
The first phase of the project was completed within 61 days setting a
world record.
Acting Highways and Road Development Minister T.B. Ekanayaka and
Labour Minister Dr. Mervyn Silva will participate at this occasion.
