Ran Kekulu gets Rs.12.5m
Granting scholarships to 130 Ran Kekulu accountholders with highest
aggregates of marks at the scholarship exam 2007 was held recently at
the Bank of Ceylon Head Office auditorium.
Bank of Ceylon Chairman Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe said that Rs. 15m
is spent annually on this Insurance cover and Rs. 12.5m on the Ran
Kekulu scholarship.
Bank of Ceylon has assigned funds every year for granting scholarship
worth Rs. 10,000 each, for 1250 children with Ran Kekulu savings
accounts, possessing highest aggregates of marks in the grade 5
scholarship examination, every year.
Every such child who maintains a minimum balance of Rs. 2,500 in the
Ran Kekulu account is entitled for Rs. 5 lakhs worth insurance cover and
Rs. 1 lakh medical insurance cover.
The Minister of Finance and state Revenue Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was
the chief guest.
