Kelaniya flyover 2nd stage opening on Monday

Stage II of the Jeyaraj Fernandopulle memorial overhead bridge at Kelaniya will be ready for traffic on August 4. Stage II was completed within a record time of 75 days.

The 325m long flyover, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka was funded by the British Government at a total cost of Rs. 2100 million. Ms. Mabey & Johnson Ltd and Access Engineering were incharge of the construction while the job was executed by the Sri Lankan engineers and the British and Philippine staff.

With the commissioning of the new flyover traffic congestion on the Colombo - Kandy main road will be greatly eased.
